It was a tale of two contests tonight, with one nailbiter and one blowout, but the end result is the same: both series are tied 1-1 going into Wednesday’s off day.
Milwaukee 13, Kane County 0
The most lopsided game of the postseason, this one was over pretty quickly as Milwaukee evened the series at one game apiece.
The Milkmen started the barrage right away with a two-run double from Wendell Marrero. Two innings later, Marrero struck again with an RBI single, then Griffin Doersching doubled him home for a 4-0 advantage.
Milwaukee added a Yordys Valdes doubled in the fourth, then put the game to bed with a seven-run fifth that was capped off by an Andy Blake grand slam. The Milkmen made it a baker’s dozen with another RBI double from Marrero in the eighth.
Christian Young spun 5.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three other relievers all pitched in zeroes (despite five walks) to bring home Milwaukee’s first win of the series before heading home.
Fargo-Moorhead 5, Kansas City 4
Once again, it was a nail-biter in North Dakota despite an early Monarchs lead. This time, it was Fargo-Moorhead who scraped out a win, knotting the series at one apiece.
Kansas City took an early 3-0 lead for the second night in a row, with J.D. Davis stroking a two-run double in the second, then scoring on a Tyler Gentry RBI single.
Fargo-Moorhead quickly responded with a run in the second, but the Monarchs restored the three-run edge in the next half-inning on an RBI single from Davis.
The RedHawks, though, began their comeback in the fifth. Jose Sermo obliterated a 465-foot two-run home run to bring the margin to to one, then Eric Filia tied the game on an RBI single. Finally, Brian Fuentes blooped a two-out RBI single in the seventh to put Fargo-Moorhead in front.
The Monarchs got the tying run to second in both the eighth and ninth frames, but Jon Beymer and Tyler Jeans each held the line to send the series back to Kansas City tied at one apiece.
