It was a tale of two contests tonight, with one nailbiter and one blowout, but the end result is the same: both series are tied 1-1 going into Wednesday’s off day.
Milwaukee 7, Kane County 1
Kane County started the game by snapping an 18-inning scoring drought, but Milwaukee dominated the rest of the way on their way to their third consecutive win and third trip to the Miles Wolff Cup Finals
Matt Botcher gave the Cougars the lead with a first-inning RBI single, but that lead was immediately taken away by the Milkmen, who scored three times in the first on a two-run homer from Alec Olund and RBI single from Chase Waddell.
The Cougars did not record another hit Angelo Cabral’s 5.0 innings of work, in which the right-hander struck out eight and allowed only the single hit and run.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee flexed their muscles to add to the lead, with Griffin Doersching homered in the sixth, then Delvin Perez and Andy Blake went back-to-back in the seventh.
Three Milkmen relievers combined to allow only two baserunners as the Milkmen allowed only one run in the final three games to vanquish Kane County and reach the Finals for the first time since 2022.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Kansas City 3
Moments after Milwaukee punched their ticket to the Miles Wolff Cup Finals, Kansas City began their quest to do the same, but Fargo-Moorhead had other plans.
The RedHawks went to work in the second, scoring three times on home runs from veteran bashers Jose Sermo and Dillon Thomas.
The Monarchs responded with an RBI double from Hudson Head, but Fargo-Moorhead answered right back in the third with another longball, this time a two-run shot from Eric Filia to stretch the lead to 5-1.
Kansas City scored once in the third on Onix Vega’s RBI single, which was the last tally the Monarchs scored against Parker Harm, who struck out seven over 5.0 innings of two-run ball. He left with a four-run lead thanks to Brian Fuentes’ RBI single in the fourth.
The Monarchs made a push late, as Luken Baker clubbed a solo homer in the seventh, then came to the plate again as the tying run in the eighth, but KC pulled no closer than three runs as Fargo-Moorhead forced a decisive Game 5.
