The Cats were originally founded in the short-lived All-American Association, moving to the more stable Central League after that circuit died after just one season. Moving to a remodeled LaGrave Field in 2002, Fort Worth flourished, posting strong attendance numbers and winning three consecutive league championships, including the first two crowns in American Association history.

However, attendance fell precipitously in 2010 and the club quickly cratered on the field and financially. After failing to meet the league’s line of credit requirements after the 2011 season, the Cats’ membership was revoked and the club was forced to find a home in the North American League for that circuit’s final year in 2012. They settled in United League Baseball for two seasons, but never found stable footing again, folding along with the rest of the league after the 2014 campaign.

Joel Kirsten pitched for Fort Worth in all six of their American Association campaigns, winning 36 games with the franchise and spinning the first no-hitter in AA history in 2006
