Kansas City 4, Milwaukee 0
It was another cold and blustery night in Wisconsin and once again it was a night for pitching—more specifically, Kansas City’s pitching. The Monarchs spun their second consecutive shutout to pull KC within one win of their historic fourth Miles Wolff Cup.
The Monarchs scratched across the first run of the game right away. Tyler Gentry led off the game with a double, stole third, and came home on a Luken Baker groundout.
In the fourth, Kansas City added to the lead. Baker led off with a deep fly to center that was dropped for a two-base error, then came around two batters later on a Saul Garza RBI single. Following another hit, Garza crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put the Monarchs in front 3-0.
KC starter Jimmy Endersby was sharp from the get-go, retiring the first seven batters he faced and 12 of the first 13 over four hitless frames. He finally allowed a leadoff hit in the fifth, but the Milkmen still were unable to break through.
The Monarchs looked prime to pull away in the seventh, putting two on with no outs, but Alec Olund threw out Garza at the plate on a base hit to center, allowing the Milkmen to stay within striking distance.
It didn’t matter, though, as Endersby finshed his night with a 1-2-3 seventh, going 7.0 scoreless with only one hit and two walks allowed, striking out seven in an 84-pitch gem.
An inning later, Kansas City pulled further in front , as Gentry again stroked a leadoff double, then came home when Hudson Head dumped an RBI single into left-center.
Tyler Myrick and Emmanuel Chapman each followed with a scoreless frame, sending the series to Kansas City with the Monarchs needing just one win for the title.
